Summer Kick Off

Although most of the Weed Beach Opening Day had to take place on its rain date, the event was a huge success and the weather was perfect.

The first 300 children to arrive at Weed Beach received gift bags filled with items donated by local businesses, including Palmer's Market, Party Style Box, Learning Express, Kelly Associates, Dr. David Osherow and SBC Design. First County Bank, the title sponsor of the event, also gave kids a sand bucket and shovel.

Kids participated in a multitude of activities, from arts and crafts (courtesy of Darien Arts Center) to learning about sea life in the Long Island Sound (tutorial courtesy of Darien Nature Center).

The adults played, too. Many danced along to the Darien High School Jazz Ensemble at a concert the night before. At the actual opening, there were paddleboard demonstrations courtesy of Downunder Kayaking.

The festivities wrapped up with a live performance by Dre Towey with Sugar on Top. “A lot of time and effort has gone into improving the facilities here and we are grateful to all the volunteers and sponsors who made opening day so enjoyable for our residents,” said Susan Daly, co-chair of the Weed Beach Opening Day Committee.
