In New Canaan, it seems, one door opens, and another … well, certain things change. Just as Gates closed at the end of April, so elm revamped its offerings soon after under the direction of new arrival (from, where else? New York) Chef Venner, its inventive executive chef. Different things too, as those in the know know, are planned for the Picador spot, supposedly by the South End folk, announced earlier in the year, though expansion has yet to come.

A new restaurant, however, is coming to SoNo in the immediate future. No word, precisely, on what it is, but as a full kitchen staff, salad person, chef, line cooks and sous chef are being sought, change is out there in the wind. This doesn't appear to be a new venture by the folks who own Harbor Lights, however, who are looking for staff themselves. Precise details, though, are hard to come by.

SoNo, it seems, is the place where things are happening. Even the concept of “SoNo” is expanding, geographically speaking, especially toward 515 West Ave. The famed Grimaldi’s reportedly was set to move into the Waypointe development as part of that mixed-use spot’s offerings. Waypointe will, along with a movie theater, boast sundry restaurants – with the mall coming nearby, imagine the options in a couple years – but Grimaldi's won’t be one.

However, the Stamford-born Colony Grill, with its wafter-thin hot-oil pie (and more, just visit its Milford or Fairfield locations to see), will be coming to that spot. So also will new iterations of Barcelona and Sedona Taphouse, with its “200 craft beers.”

Foodies, more generally, rejoiced in a couple things of late, notably Wave Hill Breads’ Saturday opening (10 am-3 pm). Also, Farmers Markets are unfurling awnings in the area or have recently set down their wares. For Darien, visit here; for New Canaan, information is here; and for Rowayton (end-of-month opening), details are here.
