Pamela Pauline van Reesema and Ate Tamme Hendrik Meijer spent their first date on a boat ride along the canals of Amsterdam. And if that isn’t romantic enough, it was Pamela’s grandmother and Ate’s aunt who arranged the meeting. While Pamela was in Holland from New York City visiting her grandparents, Ate took his aunt’s advice and invited Pamela to tour Amsterdam on his boat. Family really does know best, because only ten months after navigating the canals, Ate proposed to Pamela during a ski trip in Vermont.
The ceremony was held at Rye Presbyterian Church and officiated by both longtime family friend Reverend Nancy Boldt-McClaren and Reverend Dan Love followed by a reception at the American Yacht Club in Rye.
The bride, daughter of Nickel and Augusta van Reesema of Rowayton, graduated from Greenwich High School and Harvard University.
The groom, son of Ate and Ans Meijer of The Netherlands, graduated from Wassenaar High School and Groningen University Law School. Ate is a tax lawyer for A.T.H. Belasting Advisors in the Netherlands.
In keeping with the nautical theme of their first date, the couple sailed the British Virgin Islands before returning home to Holland.
