Above: A downpour doesn’t dampen enthusiasm on the dance floor
Mallory Kiplinger was a freshman at Georgetown University when David Going, also known as Wes, then a sophomore, set his eyes on her. With some persistence, he was able to win a date with Mal. The couple stayed together through college and for five more years after Wes graduated. They had a long-distance relationship as Wes embarked on three deployments with the United States Navy. Though the bride doesn’t remember it, when Wes proposed at a winery outside of Washington D.C., on Mal’s birthday in 2015, her first word was “finally.” The ceremony and reception took place at the Tokeneke Club in Darien on an August day. While guests were dancing a thunderstorm erupted, but the downpour didn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm. “Everyone was so hot, but the rain provided a much-needed cooling,” says the bride, who reports her guests continued to dance through the night. Mal, who earned her degree in operations and information management, now works at KKR in Manhattan. She is the daughter of Joan and Kevin Kiplinger of Darien. Wes, who earned his undergraduate degree in finance and international relations, is a candidate for his MBA at NYU’s Stern School of Business. He is the son of Beth and Dave Going of St. Louise, Missouri. The couple now live in New York City.
