Normally, thoughts of one-stop shopping and good health don’t go together, but that’s changing in New Canaan with the opening of Orchards End (orchardsendhealth.com). Founder ELSA SYKES, a mom of six and a certified health coach and yoga instructor, started the center with a focus on holistic health and its benefits for women and their families. “Periodically, I had done elimination diets, and this physical reset always brought me back to a baseline of good health,” she says. “I wanted to expand on the experience and share it with others.”
An entrepreneur at heart, Sykes didn’t waste any time building a 4,000-square-foot private wellness annex on her property last year, complete with meeting rooms, a juice bar and yoga studio. Her pilot program consisted of a 21-day reboot focusing on detoxification through food. She invited friends to participate, and rounded out the program with exercise classes, health seminars and healing treatments. “I am passionate about teaching women to look at the whole body. My reward is to see them look, act, feel and think differently.”
The good news: Sykes will open the program to the public, and enhance it with personal training sessions, cooking lessons, webinars and more. Here are some things the program can help participants accomplish.
GET IT DONE
1 DIET OVERHAUL Sykes provides a nutrient-dense menu you can follow to detoxify your system and reduce inflammation. She’ll even accompany you to the grocery store to help you stock up.
2 FEEL FIT Yoga, barre and high- intensity interval training are just some of the group classes offered at Orchards End.
3 HIT THE SPA Reiki, massage, acupuncture, deep-tissue facial manipulation and an infrared sauna are available. These healing therapies improve circulation and may speed up cell reproduction to restore cell health.
4 LUNCH AND LEARN Enjoy a healthy meal while guest speakers share their expertise on subjects like sleep, nutrition, stress, hormonal imbalances, spirituality, juicing and metabolism.
5 THINK IT OVER Many Reboot participants want to lose weight, so Sykes encourages guests to try meditation, which can enable you to visualize your goals, resulting in a renewed sense of confidence.
6 SEE THE DOCTOR Kurt Waples, a practicing functional medicine doctor and kinesiologist. from Bluestone Health Group in Stamford, will do a baseline analysis of your body’s composition, which shows fat-to-muscle ratio, bone mass and more. The information can be used to determine if a hormonal imbalance is present.
