In cooperation with Pegasus Therapeutic Riding, the Ox Ridge Charity Horse Show will be held from June 11 through 16 at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club (ORHC). The show is a United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Hunter “A” rated major riding competition featuring three-star jumpers. Known for its breathtaking show jumping exhibitions, this year’s highly-anticipated program also serves as the kick-off to the 100-year anniversary celebration of the ORHC in 2014.
Now in its 83rd year, the show is extremely well-known and popular amongst renowned riders, including Olympians McLain Ward and Peter Leone. Georgina Bloomberg and Geoffrey Wales have also competed, as well as many world-class riders from overseas. The show draws over 7,000 spectators and more than 300 VIPs on Sunday to watch the $30,000 Grand Prix.
The Ox Ridge Charity Horse Show is held at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club, a non-profit organization founded in 1914 on thirty-seven acres formerly owned by the opera singer John McCormick. The club has extensive indoor and outdoor facilities that are some of the finest in Fairfield County.
The ORHC is also proud to announce the return of Palmer’s Market as a major sponsor of this year’s program. A well-known name throughout lower Fairfield County, Palmer's has been a provider of gourmet foods, local produce and quality meats since 1921.
“The Ox Ridge Horse Show is a community institution that has been around even longer than we have,” said Cindy Palmer Dean, co-owner of Palmer’s Market. “We’re honored to lend our support to both the ORHC and Pegasus Therapeutic Riding.”
The proceeds from this year’s program will be donated to Pegasus Therapeutic Riding, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Founded in 1975, Pegasus provides equine-assisted activities to people with special needs, military veterans and at-risk individuals. Students ages four and up participate in therapeutic horseback riding sessions and Horses & Me, an unmounted horsemanship and equine learning program. Pegasus is a PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) International Premier Accredited Center.
“The Ox Ridge Charity Horse Show is an outstanding equestrian competition, and we are proud to be a part of this year’s event,” said Todd Gibbs, Pegasus’ executive director. “The ORHC’s charitable commitment to our programs will have a real and lasting impact on the lives of hundreds of very special people. On behalf of everyone at Pegasus, we thank the ORHC for its generous support of our mission.”
